BVM USN observes Ravidas Jayanti

With the motive to inculcate the values of harmony, equality and compassion among the students, Bhartiya Vidya Mandir (Udham Singh Nagar) celebrated Sant Ravidas Jayanti with great devotion and fervour today. Teachers and students paid floral tribute to the great Sant Ravidas. On the occasion the school musical choir sang a beautiful song in praise of the great Saint. Rajkumar (TGT) emphasized on the sermons by the great philosopher Sant Ravidas ji in his speech. He opined that pure thoughts and ideas of Ravidas ji had a profound impact on the society. A spectacular documentary was also screened for the students in the school auditorium. Principal Bandana Sethi inspired the students to break the shackles of discrimination and move on the path showed by Sant Ravidas ji.

Special Awareness Session on ‘NOVEL CORONAVIRUS INFECTION’ held

Keeping in view the Global Health Emergency declared by World Health Organization (WHO) regarding Novel Coronavirus Infection, a special awareness session was organized recently for the doctors, residents and staff nurses of the hospital.
Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that PREVENTION remains the only cure to be safe from CORONA VIRUS infectin.
While addressing the gathering, Principal Dr Sandeep Puri said that an outbreak of pneumonia like illness caused by Novel Coronavirus has put health authorities on high alert around the world. Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina recalled the previous outbreaks of Ebola, Swine flu, SARS & Nipah virus and highlighted the current update on coronavirus outbreak.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a global emergency on January 30. Till date, global death toll has reached 492 (490) from China, 1 each from Philippines and Hong Kong as number of confirmed cases surpasses 24,500 with infections being reported from at least 28 countries including India
In her lecture, Dr Deepinder Kaur Chhina (Professor & Head of Microbiology) emphasized the need to understand the methods of transmission of the novel coronavirus and the steps needed to prevent its transmission. The patient generally presents with flu like symptoms- fever, cough, headache, running nose, sneezing, shortness of breath, fatigue etc. It is found that coronavirus infection generally spread while coughing, sneezing, shaking hands with an infected person and in contact with infected surface or person. The spread of infection can be prevented by regular hand washing, covering nose or mouth while sneezing, by avoiding close contact with infected person, eating properly cooked meat and drinking enough water.
Dr Harmeet Singh Dhooria (Associate Professor of Medicine) informed about various clinical aspects of Coronavirus infection and said that in wake of three confirmed positive cases that have been reported from Kerala, countrywide awareness drive has been intensified. Infection Disease Control Programme (IDSP) under the health ministry has been issued guidelines on ‘Clinical management of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) in suspected/confirmed novel coronavirus cases.’
Dr Rajesh Mahajan (Professor of Medicine) said that a special ‘help desk’ and an isolation ward has been set up in DMC Emergency. Our hospital staff will work jointly with the state IDSP team for collecting the samples which will be further sent to referral centers for confirmation.

4 day Cricket Premier League held at CT Varsity

Ludhiana: CT University’s Department of Sports organised a four day ‘CT Cricket Premier Cricket Tournament’ where 16 teams participated from various academies and schools around Punjab.
The teams were from CT Public School Jalandhar, Kido Fit Sports Academy, BMS Cricket Academy, Everest Cricket Club, Police Public School Bharowal, CP Cricket Club Ludhiana, KCB Ludhiana Cricket Academy, Kular Cricket Academy, Young Friends Cricket Club, New Star Academy, Satluj Cricket Academy, Put Pelican Cricket Club, Moga Cricket Academy, DCA Bareta Mansa, PAU Cricket Academy and Pathan Cricket Academy.
Final match was played between CT Public School and Young Friends Cricket Club where after, CT Public School won this match by 50 runs and bagged the cash prize of Rs. 16,000/.
Moreover, Risabh was titled as Best Batsman from CT Public School, Rajeshwar titled with Best Bowler from CT Public School and Sikander as Man of Series from Young Friends Cricket Club.
Dr Praveen Sharma, Director Sports while congratulating the winners said, “Such platforms let students bring out their best and can contribute to nation as a whole. The need of the hour is not just intelligent youth but fit and smart as well and sports activities are best for this.”
Charanjit Singh Channi, Chancellor and Dr Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor awarded the winners and congratulated them.

Department of Physiotherapy held awareness session


In view of World Cancer Day observed yesterday, Department of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation organized an awareness lecture on ‘Role of Physiotherapy in treating cancer patients’.
Dr Avkash Teotia (Incharge, Physiotherapy Department) stressed that there are rising incidence of cancer in Malwa region of Punjab and ‘Physiotherapy’ plays a pivotal role in treating cancer patients by advising them about various physiotherapy and rehabilitation exercises to lead healthy life
Dr Alka Kaul (Senior Physiotherapist at DMCH) addressed the gathering of patients and their attendants and told them about ‘Role of physiotherapy’ in treating cancer patients. In her address, Dr Kaul said that a patient suffering from cancer has to undergo many different types of treatment and ‘Physiotherapy’ plays a very major
role in curing cancer-related fatigue, which is one of the most common side effects for those undergoing treatment.
A physiotherapist can assess a patient and pinpoint exactly what issues they are facing. Addressing these issues could involve strength training, to compensate for any weakening muscles or bones; aerobic training, to address energy issues that relate to pacing and breathlessness; cardiovascular & endurance training; or kinesiology, the science of movement, which can help patients learn how to overcome limitations and use the physical abilities they do have in the most effective way.
Physiotherapy helps people in maintain a high-quality of life and stay healthy and can be an extremely effective way of helping cancer patients in maintain better quality of life and thus, enabling them to pursue all possible routes for beating the disease.
The gathering was also informed about various state-of-art facilities and services available in the department.

CT University organises ‘Career Guru’ Awards

Ludhiana: CT University, Ludhiana honoured more than 200 tutors from various coaching centres of Ludhiana, Moga, Raikot, Malerkotla, Mohali, etc with ‘Career Guru Award’ 2020. The tutors who are outstanding in their field; and aim to respond to the individual needs of the pupils; along with the learning in the school and assisting them in reaching their educational goals were honoured by CTU Chancellor Charanjit Singh Channi and Vice Chancellor Dr Harsh Sadawarti.

BVM Udham Singh Nagar observes ‘Blessings Day’


Blessings Day was organized for the students of class X & XII at BVM Udham Singh Nagar. The auspicious occasion was observed to seek benedictions for their future endeavors from Goddess Saraswati and their Gurus. A pious hawan ceremony was performed in the morning to bless the students of class 10th and 12th. Kailash Chander Maini (Vice President BVM Trust) adorned the occasion with his benign presence and bestowed his blessings upon students for their upcoming board examination and inspired them to strive for perfection in life. Lalit, Sushant, Tamanna , Sakshi, Anshul, Vritika, Vanshika & Aditi poured out their hearts through their sentiments expressing their love and gratitude for the principal, teachers and alma mater. The event was a fiesta devoted to the years spent together reminiscing joyous moments. Mohit (XII Science) enthralled one and all with his melodious song. Applauding the efforts and achievements of the students of the class XII, the promising students were felicitated with a token of remembrance. Tamanna and Lalit (XII Science) grabbed the title of the Best Girl & the Best Boy of the Year, Vritika & Sushant (XII Commerce) were adorned with the titles of the Best Girl & the Best Boy (2019-2020). Aditi Sharma (XII Commerce) was titled as the Eloquent Orator, Amrit Sharma (XII Commerce) the best Sports Star, Janhvi Sharma (XII Commerce) the impressionistic aesthetic and Chirag & Pankaj (XII Science) the best Innovative ATL Tinkerers.
Principal Bandana Sethi blessed the students for their bright future. She motivated them that a consistent, committed & rigorous practice is required to achieve success in any sphere of life and wished them good luck in the upcoming examinations.

Inter College Quiz Competition Held at SCD Government College

An Inter College quiz Competition 'Quiztal Maze 2.0' was held at S.C.D. Government College,Ludhiana on 1st February,2020. Organised by the PG Dept. Of Mathematics, it formed a part of centenary celebrations of the college. Dr. Kamal Kishore (Head, Department of Mathematics). Around 10 colleges participated in it. The Quiz began with a screening test of teams where only 5 teams were selected.
The Occasion was graced by Mrs. Urmil Chhibber (Ex HOD, Mathematics Dept, SCD Govt College.) and Dr. Jai Ram referred as 'Teacher of Teachers' with their benign presence. The worthy jury for the event was Mr. Rakesh Mahajan (from J.C.DAV College Dasuha), Dr. Gursharanjit Singh Sandhu ( Prof. Dept of Mathematics, SCD Govt College) and Mrs.Urmil Chhibber.The Quiz had 6 rounds which included objective type,history, pounce and bound,rapid fire etc. 
Team Alpha (SCD Govt College, Ludhiana) bagged first position, Team Beta ( D.A.V. College Sector-10, Chandigarh) was placed at second position while Team Gamma (G.H.G Khalsa College,Sudhar) at third position.
