University Business School, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana organised a Social Entrepreneurship Symposium in its campus today. The event was organised with the objective to sensitize the students towards the concept of Social Entrepreneurship wherein any one can recognize a social problem and use entrepreneurial principles to organize, create and manage a venture to make social change. The focus is on finding innovative solutions to most pressing and daunting social problems. Mr. Sarabjeet Singh Bobby and Mr. Hari Om Jindal were the speakers for the symposium. Professor Ravi Inder Singh, Director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana welcomed the guests.
Mr. Sarabjeet Singh (Bobby), a businessman from Shimla, is known for serving humanity by running free canteen for cancer patients and driving a free funeral van for the poor. He has been organizing Blood Donation camp every Sunday since last 11 years and has collected more than 20000 units of bloods for hospitals till date. He runs canteens at Shimla’s Cancer hospital and Kamla Nehru Hospital where he serves free food for the patients and their attendants. Approximately 3000 people are served free food on daily basis. In addition to this he has been running a free 24x7 funeral van service to help and support the poor people of Shimla. He is running this service since last eight years and has never refused a call till date. While sharing his journey with the students he talked about various problems and issues faced by him for starting this service. He motivated the students that in addition to our daily routine works we must try to find some opportunity to help others and share our resources with underprivileged and deprived sections of society.
Mr. Hari Om Jindal, a Ludhiana based businessman-turned-lawyer, is on a mission to provide education to slum children. Mr. Jindal left his business in transport industry and started working for underprivileged children of Ludhiana. His primary focus is to uplift the children of slum dwellers engaged in the rag picking and has been teaching them free of cost since more than 5 years. While interacting with the students, he discussed about various social concerns of our society and emphasized on the need for immediate reforms which are to be brought by society members itself. The event was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Ashish Saihjpal, Co-ordinator (MBA).
