100 units of blood donated to mark 100 years of SCD Government College


In compliance with  Government of Punjab's order, SCD Government  College, Ludhiana organised a Blood  donation camp on 18th February, 2020 to commemorate 550th birth  anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji. 
The camp also formed  a part of the Centenary Celebrations of the College. 
Dr Kunal Jain from DMC supervised the camp. His team from DMC was assisted by the college NSS volunteers under the leadership of Prof Sumeet Brar and Professor Deepak Chopra. The NSS volunteers coordinated the donors who came forward with great enthusiasm. Prof. Reetinder Joshi also donated blood. A total of 100+ units were donated. 
Simultaneously, College also organised a lecture on “Health issues in young women”. 
Dr. Kanupriya Jain, Associate Professor of Gynecology, Dr. Kunal Jain, Dr. Avnish Jain, and Mrs. Geetika Jain associated with cancer awareness program from Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, , Ludhiana were invited for the talk. 
Dr. Kunal Jain addressed the students about  reasons and early detection of cancer in patients in Punjab. He also enlightened the students regarding precautionary steps to be taken including proper  diet in order to prevent the spread of cancer. 
Dr. Kanupriya talked about various health problems faced by young girls and the solutions to these problems. She emphasized on mental  stress, lack of exercise, poor diet, over weight and hesitancy in seeking medical help as reasons behind these diseases in young girls. She also encouraged the students to change their unhealthy lifestyle and emphasized upon the need for regular check up to avoid health related problems. 
The Principal, Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu thanked the resource  persons and encouraged the students to be vigilant about their health. He encouraged the faculty of the college to organize such extension lectures in the college  and generate awareness about overall well-being. Dr. Sandhu also thanked Prof. Bhupinder for organising the lecture.
